Moist & Delicious Spice Cake

Moist & Delicious Spice Cake

I really love making spice cake—it’s a breeze! Takes just 10 minutes to prep, 30 minutes in the oven, cool, and then frost! It’s wonderfully moist and perfect for the fall season. Check out the full recipe below!

Ingredients: Spice Cake Batter:

  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 large eggs, room temp
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup milk, room temp
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Frosting:
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter (1 cup), softened
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup Topping: Caramel, homemade or store-bought

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease an 8×8 baking dish and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. Mix all the dry ingredients in a medium bowl and set them aside.
  3. Combine all the wet ingredients in a bowl. Pour the wet mix into the dry mix and whisk together. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes. Once done, run a knife around the edge of the dish. Let it cool for 15 minutes, then transfer it onto a cooling rack for another 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, make the frosting by beating together the butter, powdered sugar, and maple syrup until smooth.
  5. Frost the cake and drizzle that caramel on top. Then, slice it up and dive in!
